Berjuan Responds to Breastmilk Baby Doll Controversy
According to Dennis Lewis, the US representative of Berjuan Toys, "God supports the Breastmilk Baby".
Although, I am no Catholic, I gotta say the man has a point there. The accusations that he "needs Jesus" smacks of irony with a hint of hypocrisy and a whole lot of ignorance. While the Breastmilk baby is being fussed over, Abercrombie & Fitch are marketing push up bikinis to girls as young as 8.
The irony leaves me speechless...

According to Dennis Lewis, U.S. spokesman for Berjuan Toys, “the whole purpose of The Breast Milk Baby is to teach children the nurturing skills they’ll need to raise their own healthy babies in the future. Breastfeeding is good for babies, it’s good for mommies and it’s good for society. We really don’t understand why this has created such controversy.”
...“The truth is that we’ve received overwhelming support online from all over the country. However, about 20% of the messages have been hateful and mean. We’re being called perverts and pedophiles for promoting feeding our babies the way God intended? Churches all over the world are filled with images of Mary nursing baby Jesus, and yet we can’t imagine letting our daughters learn how important breastfeeding is for our society?”
With few exceptions, the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life for all babies. Also, former Pope John Paul II stated, “So human and natural is this bond that the Psalms use the image of the infant at its mother’s breast as a picture of God’s care for man (cf. Ps 22:9).”

I see nothing wrong with it. I breastfeed my youngest daughter still. So often my two older girls mock me by breastfeeding their dolls or stuffed animals. It's amazing how something so natural as breastfeeding could offend so many. But Then in the same society sexual misconduct is praised by many.
ReplyDeleteSame here. My daughter "nursed" her dolls. She has a very healthy self-image, I don't see in girls her age.
ReplyDeleteChildren are going to mimic the attitudes of the adults in their lives. If you make breast feeding positive, they'll be empowered. If you make it negative, they'll be ashamed.

ReplyDeleteI love it! I read my son books about how a mommy bird and a mommy person (human) feed their baby with mommy milk. My son loves it!!! It's sad what society tries to do.... we need more dolls like this!!

I have to admit - I am not surprised by some of the reactions to this. ((shaking my head))
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't consider my position on this religious in any way, so I won't address that part of the post, but ... I think people are really overreacting to this doll! I would have no problem with such a doll, even in a preschool or kindergarten setting, as a way for children to play house. The halter slips on over their clothes - they're not undressing to feed the baby.
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids went into a preschool setting at age three, handed a baby doll, and asked if they wanted to give the baby milk, the didn't even look at the bottle; they lifted the baby to their chest and started rocking and singing to it. I'm glad they know that's a special bond between a mom and a child.
