Mother’s Day Giveaway: Birth Relaxation Kit
Birth. It is a most sacred event in a woman’s life. A right to passage to motherhood. Whether you birth at home or in a hospital, your body presents your long awaited gift…one that you've nurtured diligently. If there is one thing we can all agree on, all women labor differently and there are options to birth as compatibly as every laboring mom needs.
My all of my homebirths took place in the water. I found the relaxing, warm, liquid soothing and effective for pain management. Although I never took a hypnobirthing class, I can truly see the benefits of affirmations, relaxation and a peace of mind about birth. My favorite scripture I clung to during pregnancy and labor was this...
Hypnobirthing is one option that’s gentle and natural. Hypnobirthing is a childbirth method that applies techniques to induce deep relaxation, visualization and self-hypnosis. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of unconsciousness or sleep, but can be best described as daydream or focus that occurs when you’re performing mundane tasks, such as staring into a fire in a fireplace.
Eliminating fear and concerns associated with childbirth is vital. Affirmations during hypnosis encourages a positive mindset in overcoming this. To learn more about hypnobirthing, you can sign up for hypnobirthing info series for free!

My favorite scripture I clung to during pregnancy and labor was this...
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."Creating a fear free approach to birth was vital to my peace of mind, confidence, courage and most importantly to the safety of my unborn child. Why? Fear induces panic, which causes pain and resistance.

I was amazed by the "birth is what you make of it" belief. I just assumed that if you cannot handle pain, you should have an epidural...and that the epidural was merely a procedural thing.
ReplyDeleteOur minds and bodies are actually able to overcome the sense of pain.
Yes, mindset is a big factor, not just in birth, but in everything. Our subconscious mind is very powerful. Your previous assumption is an example. You have been fed, consciously, that birth is a certain way--medical, painful, out of control--and that seeps into your subconscious, so that when you think of birth your body actually has a metabolic response: fight or flight. In that sense you end up going into the birth experience expecting that you can't do it, or rather that someone else has to do it for you (doctors, midwives, etc).
DeleteIt is empowering to know that you CAN do it, that women have been birthing without drugs or medical intervention for WAY longer than with the drugs or medical intervention. Don't get me wrong, medical advances and procedures can be amazing...when needed. But birthing IS a natural process...
Birth is NOT a medical event. While medical interventions have a time and place during some births, they are often unnecessary. There is clear evidence that women who undergo C-sections are at increased risk of surgical complications, emotional distress and can suffer difficulties with bonding and breastfeeding.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteThe 3rd one about unconventional techniques to shorten labor, decrease pain and decrease medical interventions. My 1st birth did not go as planned so I'm definitely looking for all of the resources I can.
ReplyDeleteYep, and unconventional as they may seem, they are actually quite easy. The key word is "practice!" best wishes!
Delete#4 is surprising. I'm due with my fourth baby and hope not get an epidural.
ReplyDeleteIt can be surprising. I was reluctant about this one at first. But it IS possible. and with the right tools and PRACTICE it is probable!
DeleteBest,
Mavi
I love that they discuss C Sections. I hate that I don't have the hip rotation to give a natural birth and that they discuss ways to further bond with the baby.
ReplyDeleteThe first fact that states how our thoughts create our reality/reactions. This is completely true and I've been guided to hypnobirthing and water birth since my husband and I decided to try and conceive our first. :D
ReplyDeleteWhen I became pregnant birth is exactly what I feared. This is what I had been taught by the media and mothers who have given birth before me. Even my mother in law who chose to have my husband naturally in the 80's by the Lamaze method recommended against it. I not only feared the pain of birth, but the needle of the epidural, the cutting and stitching of certain parts, being misguided by doctors and nurses, and the physical side effects of drugs to myself and my child. As I gathered information and learned of like minded mothers birthing experiences, it became clear to me that a natural birth is what is best for me and my baby. I am now changing my mindset that birth doesn't have to be scary, painful, or medicated. I am learning about self hypnosis and how this can help manage the tension that causes birth pains. Women want to do what is best for their children, the popularity of Lamaze in the 80's proved this, unfortunately that method was difficult for the average woman to master and therefore fell out of favor. We are now on the leading edge of a new wave of natural birthing that will soon be common in the mainstream. I am going to have this wonderful experience and share it with everyone that will listen.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing Stephanie! Love your attitude. Please come back and share your experience with me.
DeleteStephanie,
DeleteThat is a wonderful attitude. It's inspiring (and rekindling) to hear your journey from total fear to embrace. Way to go taking control of your fear and discovering the power of your mind and spirit!
I am really into hypnobirthing and am so excited to use these techniques for my first baby. I think the fact that childbirth is not a medical process and not something to be feared are two things that really speak to me. Before I discovered hypnobirthing, I was absolutely terrified of childbirth because of how it is portrayed in the media. Since doing a lot of research and really reading up on it, though, I'm not only not nervous about giving birth, but I'm excited! I'm looking forward to seeing what my body is capable of, and witnessing how perfectly our bodies were designed for this process. Birth is a natural, beautiful thing - not something to fear.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this giveaway.
